For the first time, FIANZ is proud to share a publication tracing the largely untold history of Muslims in Aotearoa New Zealand from 1769 to 1959.

This history did not begin with the mosques and Islamic centres familiar to us today. It is found in colonial records and in the lives of Muslims who traded, farmed, raised families, served New Zealand during two World Wars, and were laid to rest here – generations before “diversity” became part of our national vocabulary.

For a community too often regarded as recent arrivals, 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 is a powerful testament to our longstanding place in the story of New Zealand. These lives are not merely footnotes; they form part of our country’s shared history.
